True Love Takes Musical Form

Elgar: Cockaigne Overture
Sibelius: Violin Concerto
Ravel: Daphnis et Chloé - Suites No. 1 & 2

Program Notes →

Bring that special someone to Heinz Hall on Valentine’s Weekend. Maurice Ravel set the love of “Daphnis and Chloe” to his most sensuous score. It is, in the estimation of no less than Stravinsky, “one of the most beautiful products of all French music.” And virtuoso Ray Chen returns for Sibelius’ misty Violin Concerto. “Ray Chen can do pretty much anything he wants on the violin,” raves The Washington Post.

A pre-concert talk, beginning one hour prior to the performance in the auditorium, will be led by Associate Conductor Earl Lee with special guest Ray Chen! This talk is open to all ticketholders.

Immediately following the concert, join us for an on-stage performance from Franz Schubert’s String Quintet in C major, featuring Jeremy Black and Kristina Yoder, violin; Andrew Wickesberg, viola; Michael DeBruyn and Alexandra Thompson Lee, cello.

Run Time: This performance will last approimately one hour and fifty-five minutes, including intermission.
